Course Overview
The NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (IG) is a widely recognised health and safety qualification. The IG offers an excellent grounding in the essentials of health and safety.
This qualification meets the academic requirements for Technician membership (Tech IOSH) of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and Associate membership (AIIRSM) of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).

Certification
The IG has two unit assessments:
- Unit IG1 - An open book examination to assess what you know. This is scenario based and will include a closing interview, you will be asked questions about your submission.
- Unit IG2 - A practical risk assessment to assess what you can do (3 hours). Learners will complete a risk assessment and develop an action plan for their workplace.
- The delegate must achieve a ‘Pass’ in each unit to be awarded the qualification.
Delegates are awarded the Certificate on successful completion of the Open Book Examination (completed online) and practical assessment (completed in their own time).
Who is the Course For?
Relevant to every workplace, the NEBOSH International General Certificate is ideal for managers, supervisors, and anybody with health and safety management responsibilities.
Anyone can book the course and further their understanding of health and safety. However, learners must be prepared to commit time to the course and revision time in preparation for the exam. Also, the course is presented in English, so learners would therefore need to have a suitable standard of English.
Learning Outcomes
The IG program focuses on practical solutions to your health and safety needs. Upon successful completion of the qualification, you will acquire the ability to:
- Justify the need for health and safety improvements
- Advise on duties for health and safety in the workplace

- Work within a health and safety management system

- Carry out a general risk assessment (using a 5-step approach) of your workplace

- Develop basic safe systems of work that include emergency arrangements and know when to use a permit-to-work system
- Take part in incident investigations
- Help your employer check the effectiveness of their health and safety management system through monitoring, auditing and review

Learner Eligibility
All courses will be presented in English and so all delegates will need to speak, understand, and write English. NEBOSH recommends that learners undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests.
