If You’re in Consultancy, You’ll Recognise This
Let’s be honest. Working in health and safety can be rewarding. It can also be isolating, pressured and, at times, relentless.
You travel. You visit unfamiliar sites. You carry professional responsibility on your own shoulders. You write reports that matter.
And if you’re one of the many Consultants working across the UK, you’ll know this already.
So when we talk about health and safety careers at Ligtas, we don’t pretend those realities disappear. The question is different:
What kind of environment do you want around you while you do that work?
Much of consultancy is lone working. That’s just the nature of it.
You’re on site. You’re the competent person in the room. You’re making judgement calls. That won’t change anywhere you work.
What does change is what happens around that.
In our recent team survey, one theme came through clearly: people value knowing they’re not professionally isolated. One Consultant described the culture as supportive and technically strong, with “when we need to reach out there is always somebody willing to help.”
That matters.
At Ligtas, structured technical support, clear reporting processes and accessible management are not optional extras. They’re operational requirements. If you’re dealing with complex fire safety issues or detailed Legionella risk assessments, you need to know you can pick up the phone.
You’re expected to be competent. You’re not expected to know everything.
Not everyone thrives in that environment.
One of the consistent themes in our team feedback was pride in technical detail. Reports are expected to be clear, precise and thorough. Clients rely on them. Residents rely on them. They must be accurate to keep people safe.
That means:
If you’re looking for an easy ride, this probably isn’t it.
But if you care deeply about getting it right, about protecting people and doing things properly, you’ll fit.
As Ligtas has grown, communication hasn’t always felt perfect to everyone.
In our team survey, one comment highlighted that sometimes people didn’t feel fully listened to. That’s uncomfortable to read. It’s also useful.
Rather than brushing that aside, we responded by introducing an Employee Representative Group. Its role is simple: create a structured way for feedback from across the business to be heard at Board level, and acted upon.
Culture isn’t built by slogans. It’s built by how you respond when something isn’t working.
If you’re the kind of professional who wants to contribute to how a business improves, not just clock in and out, that kind of environment can be energising.
Consultancy work can feel invisible. You submit a report. You move on to the next site. The impact isn’t always immediate. But, having enough time allocated in your schedule to debrief the client before you leave site means that you can make a difference.
As a UK-national business with a lot of remote workers, we are not often in the same room together and rely on technology to meet. But once a year, we deliberately bring everyone at Ligtas together from wherever they live to our team conference. It’s not just a social event. It’s a reset point.
At that conference, annual staff awards are presented, voted for by the team.
Not based on billable hours.
Voted for by peers.
It’s a reminder that while much of the year is spent independently, you are part of something collective. Lone workers aren’t alone at all.
We believe that professional people should be rewarded with a professional package. In addition to a competitive salary, some the employee benefits we can offer include:
Who Thrives Here?
You’ll probably do well at Ligtas if you:

If you’re currently in a consultancy role and feeling stretched, under-supported, or disconnected from the purpose behind the paperwork, it might be time to reflect.
As a growing business, we regularly recruit for these roles across the UK:
