Discover what it’s really like to work at Ligtas

Lone Working Is Real. So Is Support.

Much of consultancy is lone working. That’s just the nature of it.

You’re on site. You’re the competent person in the room. You’re making judgement calls. That won’t change anywhere you work.

What does change is what happens around that.

In our recent team survey, one theme came through clearly: people value knowing they’re not professionally isolated. One Consultant described the culture as supportive and technically strong, with “when we need to reach out there is always somebody willing to help.”

That matters.

At Ligtas, structured technical support, clear reporting processes and accessible management are not optional extras. They’re operational requirements. If you’re dealing with complex fire safety issues or detailed Legionella risk assessments, you need to know you can pick up the phone.

You’re expected to be competent. You’re not expected to know everything.

“We work very well as lone workers. Although we rarely cross paths, when we need to reach out there is always somebody willing to help."

Andrew Case

Legionella Consultant

“The people that work together here, seem to have got to know each other on a more personal level making it easier, and nicer coming to work knowing that people have empathy and are willing to make themselves available (even after hours) to make sure you know what you're doing so you can do the job to your best ability.”

Adam Hollick

Fire Door Inspector

“A good day at Ligtas is pretty much every day. I get to meet various professionals, see various locations and be able to advise on keeping people safe. I have great support from the team in the different departments and can always rely on other colleagues for their advise and support.”

Paul Newton

Health, Safety & Fire Consultant

“It’s nice when clients email me directly for advice, and if I can’t help them, I refer them to our technical team.”

Dougie Smart

Senior Health, Safety, Fire & Legionella Consultant

“I’m supported by clear procedures, good communication, and a team that’s always willing to help when needed.”

Shellie Rogers

“Great support from my line manager and other team members. We also have a good technical department if I have any difficult H&S questions.”

Dougie Smart

“The Intranet and communication is brilliant, I can find anything I need to carry out my job. When I can't, TEAMS is fantastic as we are always willing to help one another when needed.”

Andrew Case

“I feel all persons at Ligtas support each other as much as they can. From the schedulers, report team, senior leadership team and all the office staff to my fellow professionals who give advice, maintain the quality of my reports or my immediate Line Manager.”

Paul Newton

“I get a lot of support from many people at Ligtas, whether it’s technical advice or just general guidance. Knowing I can reach out to colleagues for help makes it easier to do my job well and give clients the best possible support.”

Georgia France

High Standards, No Corners Cut

Not everyone thrives in that environment.

One of the consistent themes in our team feedback was pride in technical detail. Reports are expected to be clear, precise and thorough. Clients rely on them. Residents rely on them. They must be accurate to keep people safe.

That means:

  • Our systems are designed to support both our clients, and our team.
  • Attention to detail really does matter.
  • Ongoing CPD is real – not just lip service.

If you’re looking for an easy ride, this probably isn’t it.

But if you care deeply about getting it right, about protecting people and doing things properly, you’ll fit.

“The Apollo scheduling tool gives our clients a better service – we meet due dates as we have a clearer picture of resources, can provide forward schedules, Outlook invites and more.”

Donna McKay

Head of Operational Planning, Scheduling & Administration

“I know exactly what I am doing from the moment I go to bed the day before (Apollo Scheduling system ensures this happens every day). The client expecting my arrival is aware of the work I am undertaking for them (the hard work that our scheduling team carry out ensures this) and I leave site with our clients knowing exactly what I have found and what they can do about it.”

Andrew Case

Legionella Consultant

“The feedback I get from those who QC my reports encourages me to ensure my standards never slip.”

Debbie O'Mara

Health, Safety and Fire Consultant

“The launch of our webinar series has definitely made a difference. We've had some really lovely feedback, thanking us for the advice and for delivering it in a pragmatic and helpful way.”

Amy Jones

Senior Marketing Manager

We’re Not Perfect. And We Don’t Pretend To Be.

As Ligtas has grown, communication hasn’t always felt perfect to everyone.

In our team survey, one comment highlighted that sometimes people didn’t feel fully listened to. That’s uncomfortable to read. It’s also useful.

Rather than brushing that aside, we responded by introducing an Employee Representative Group. Its role is simple: create a structured way for feedback from across the business to be heard at Board level, and acted upon.

Culture isn’t built by slogans. It’s built by how you respond when something isn’t working.

If you’re the kind of professional who wants to contribute to how a business improves, not just clock in and out, that kind of environment can be energising.

“As a Consultant, it can feel as if I am on my own (and it has in previous jobs). Ligtas is very different, it feels like 1 team all doing what we need to do."

Rob Walters

Health, Safety and Fire Consultant

“I would say that everyone works quite independently but we come together as a team overall and there is a network of support throughout the company.”

Claire Cupper

Account Manager

“It’s a well-oiled machine at Ligtas, our support team at Cardiff work hard to provide exceptional support.”

Andrew Sherwin

Consultant

Recognition Matters

Consultancy work can feel invisible. You submit a report. You move on to the next site. The impact isn’t always immediate. But, having enough time allocated in your schedule to debrief the client before you leave site means that you can make a difference.

“I supported a client where a newly appointed manager felt overwhelmed by their fire and health & safety responsibilities. By walking them through the assessment findings in plain language and prioritising the most important actions, I helped them gain clarity and confidence. They were able to take practical steps straight away, and seeing their confidence grow while knowing real risks had been reduced was a moment where I felt I genuinely made a difference.”

Georgia France

Health, Safety and Fire Consultant

As a UK-national business with a lot of remote workers, we are not often in the same room together and rely on technology to meet. But once a year, we deliberately bring everyone at Ligtas together from wherever they live to our team conference. It’s not just a social event. It’s a reset point.

At that conference, annual staff awards are presented, voted for by the team.
Not based on billable hours.
Voted for by peers.

It’s a reminder that while much of the year is spent independently, you are part of something collective. Lone workers aren’t alone at all.

“My award… I am sooo not use to getting praised, I usually just crack on with my job.  That was so nice.”

Barbara Bewick-Millen

Regional Manager, North Team

“Working from home can have its challenges, however there is always support available when you need it. The business invests in their staff with training days, team meetings and an annual conference.”

Claire Cupper

Account Manager
