NEBOSH International Diploma in Environmental Management Course Overview

The NEBOSH International Diploma in Environmental Management encompasses a comprehensive study of fundamental environmental management principles, the significance of international agreements related to environmental management, and strategies for mitigating and managing pollution.

This curriculum has been thoughtfully crafted to equip learners with the necessary knowledge and skills, irrespective of their global location, enabling them to make a positive impact on environmental management standards and procedures within any organisation, regardless of their position within the organisation.

Key topics covered are:

  • Benefits, limitations, and structure of an environmental management system
  • Environmental aspect identification and control
  • The principles and drivers for environmental sustainability
  • Waste minimisation strategies

Key topics

There are four key topics covered in this NEBOSH Diploma: Environmental leadership, Environmental Management Systems, Sustainability, Legislation, and control associated with pollution prevention and control.

Students should be mindful that this is a Degree level qualification and as such this classifies the NEBOSH Environmental Diploma as a demanding qualification. Therefore you may find it very difficult to gain a pass mark if you do not already have crucial background knowledge as a health & safety practitioner or the ability to study at this level.

The qualification is divided into two units, each of which is assessed separately:
Managing environmental aspects: Unit ED1 is assessed by a three-hour written examination. Students choose to answer 5 out of 8 questions.

  • Unit ED1: Controlling environmental aspects
  • Unit IDEM2: Environmental Regulation

Environmental regulation: Unit IDEM2 is assessed by a written assignment of approximately 8000 words, designed to test knowledge across the syllabus.

Students must successfully complete both parts of the assessment (assignment and examination) within five years of the result declaration for the first unit successfully completed in order to achieve the qualification.
