Why Use a Third Party Accredited Fire Safety Provider

Why should I appoint third-party accredited fire safety providers?

Third-party accreditation is a phrase that has been heard increasingly in the fire safety industry following the tragic events at Grenfell Tower and the following review of building regulations by Dame Judith Hackitt.

But what is third-party accreditation and why is it important when selecting fire safety providers?

What is Third Party Accreditation?

Third-party accreditation is the best assurance of quality when looking for a provider to help meet your fire safety requirements. It offers independent verification and evidence that a company is competent and working to the appropriate standards and best practices for the specific service you require.

In recent years there has been an increased focus on fire safety responsibilities. This emphasises the responsibilities of the person appointed for fire safety within a building, Responsible Person (England & Wales), Duty Holder (Scotland), and Appropriate Person (Northern Ireland). Also the actions they can take to mitigate fire risk to the best of their ability by following the appropriate national fire safety legislation.

Why use third-party approved fire safety providers

For many other routine maintenance, installation, and repair tasks we already use third-party accredited contractors as standard. We appoint Gas Safe Registered gas engineers and NICEIC or NAPIT electricians for gas or electrical work.

When it comes to carrying out work on life safety systems or life safety fire risk assessments, we should be applying the same standard of competence to the fire safety partners we appoint.

There are currently no legal minimum qualification requirements for many trades and services within the fire industry. So, using third-party approved contractors is the best way to know your business and staff are in safe hands. Ligtas Ltd believes this is the best way to ensure competency.

Ligtas are Third Party Accredited Life Safety Fire Risk Assessors under the BAFE SP205-1 Scheme and have a dedicated team of fire safety specialists. We deliver a bespoke fire risk management service
