Formula 1 In Schools Challenge

Formula 1 In Schools Challenge

Team Sponsored By Ligtas

Ligtas are delighted to have sponsored a young team of aspiring future designers and engineers from the JCB Academy in Staffordshire in their recent endeavours for the Formula 1 STEM challenge in schools.

Background

The Formula 1 in Schools STEM Challenge is an international educational competition combining the excitement of Formula 1 racing with applying STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) skills. It aims to inspire students aged 9 to 19 to pursue careers in STEM fields by providing them with hands-on experience in designing, building, and racing miniature Formula 1 cars.

What more could you ask for than to be inspired by Formula 1 while in school and thinking about your future career?

At Ligtas, we believe that passion is the fuel that drives exceptional work and propels us toward achieving our company mission. We recognise that when our employees are passionate about what they do, they excel in their roles and contribute wholeheartedly to our shared vision of making a difference in the world. Therefore, we value and nurture our employees’ passion, recognising that we can make a difference through their unwavering dedication and enthusiasm.

By investing in young teams, companies like Ligtas can nurture and develop young talent, potentially creating a pipeline of skilled professionals who may be interested in future career opportunities with Ligtas.

About the challenge

The primary goal of the challenge is to design and manufacture the fastest and most innovative Formula 1 model car possible, using engineering principles and advanced technologies.

This naturally encourages the students to think creatively and apply their problem-solving skills. Working as a team where each student gets to apply their skills to roles such as designing, manufacturing, marketing, and managing their project.

And then it’s all go as each team shows off their car, which is evaluated on various criteria, allowing the students to demonstrate their project and why they went down the route they did.

The JCB Academy

The JCB Academy was established in 2010 and is governed by a charitable trust established by JCB. The JCB Academy is sponsored by JCB and other businesses, including Bentley Motors, Network Rail and Rolls-Royce. They form the Core Challenge Partners, who together develop the unique curriculum and learning techniques. Like Ligtas, they adopt a can-do-will-do attitude and encourage teamwork and leadership.

From their website

It is recognised that young people who take responsibility for their own learning and environment grow into more successful adults.
