The background

DSEAR is a specific set of legislation that addresses the risk of both explosive cloud ignition and explosive type events. It applies to flammable gases and liquids but equally to combustible dusts. These Regulations impose a requirement for a specific type of risk assessment that assesses the risk of an explosion occurring and the controls to mitigate their effects and stop the propagation of an explosion should it occur.

Industries that commonly have significant DSEAR based risks that have to be effectively managed include;
If this is you, then you need to attend.
A better understanding of DSEAR and how to ensure that you can keep your customers and properties safe and be ready to create a plan of action.

  • Food industry – combustible food ingredients and flammable flavourings.
  • Coatings – use of flammable paints, coatings, and combustible powder coatings.
  • Woodworking / Plastic Shaping – combustible dusts.
  • Fuel storage and use, including Diesel – flammable liquids and the risks created by mists of combustible liquids.
  • Chemical Industry – Use of flammable gases and liquids.
  • Plating Industry – Formation of Hydrogen during plating, often using flammable coatings.
  • Aviation Industry – metal treatments using exotic gases and use of combustible metals.
  • Warehousing – storage of aerosols, flammable materials and industrial natural gas heating systems.
  • Bulk Storage – storage of flammable gases and liquids and non-flammable liquids under pressure (i.e. liquid nitrogen and oxygen).

Where you should be…

  • You have identified all processes/uses of dangerous substances associated with your work activities
  • You have DSEAR compliant risk assessments covering all of these processes/uses
  • Where required DSEAR Zones have been identified, assessed and established
  • Suitable management arrangements have been implemented to minimise the risks associated with Dangerous Substances, including meeting the general requirements
  • Mandatory training requirements have been met.

In this key webinar, we covered the following key points:

  • What is DSEAR?
  • What Are Dangerous Substances?
  • Exemptions
  • DSEAR Risk Assessments and how they differ from MHS Risk Assessments
  • An overview of Hazardous Area Classifications
  • Examples of requirements
  • General requirements and the availability of relevant training
